Nike to stop selling tennis shoes in North Korea

The Nike tennis shoes will no longer be sold in North Korean markets after the company stopped selling the shoes in the country in 2016.

The shoe company said on Tuesday that it was removing its name from the market after North Korea said it would start accepting foreign currency.

“After thorough consultation with our global partners, we have decided to remove Nike’s name from our market in North and South Korea and the rest of the world in 2020,” a Nike spokeswoman told Reuters in a statement.

The decision to end the Nike partnership comes at a time when North Korea is under international pressure to end its nuclear weapons program.
